Evanston is a suburban city in Cook County, Illinois, United States, 12 miles (19 km) north of downtown Chicago, bordered by Chicago to the south, Skokie to the west, and Wilmette to the north, with a population of 75,430 as of 2012. Making the trip into downtown Chicago is quick and easy with both CTA and Metra stops located within walking distance of campus. It is one of the North Shore communities that adjoin Lake Michigan. Evanston is the home of Northwestern University.

Temperature variations between night and day tend to be moderate during summer with a difference that can reach 20 degrees Fahrenheit, and fairly limited during winter with an average difference of 17 degrees Fahrenheit.
